We’ve all been there…great hair day, but greasy at the roots. No time to wash and blow dry again, so what to do?
Dry shampoo!
If you’re not familiar with this product, it is commonly sold at drug stores, and hair salons. You would spray the dry shampoo onto your roots and the result; fresher looking hair, instantly. However, this type of spray product is LOADED with harmful chemicals which is why I never use it. Any product that sprays an aerosol mist requires a chemical propellant such as butane. Avoid aerosol sprays at all costs! Speaking of costs, dry shampoo products are expensive, and truly cheap and easy to DIY. This recipe will cost you about $12 for a year supply!
Many of you have been asking for a dry shampoo recipe, and we are happy to share it with you. This recipe works well, and uses only two natural, safe ingredients. You can store it for months in a shaker type bottle. Enjoy!
1/2 cup cornstarch
5-8 drops of your favourite essential oil
Mix all of the ingredients in a shaker bottle. Put a lid on it and shake it well. You want the essential oils to be evenly distributed.
If you have really dark hair, the cornstarch may leave a greyish/white tint to your roots. If you find this is happening, add 1 TBSP of activated charcoal to your mixture. It will go on darker, and charcoal is a great detoxifier.
To use, simply shake a small amount to your roots. Once you have completed the roots brush or comb out any excess and style as usual.
